Teen Patti means "three cards" in Hindi. Each player gets three cards, bets on whether they hold the best hand, and can bluff the others into giving up. It comes from the British game three-card brag and has been played across India for generations, mostly during Diwali and at weddings, and now on phones through apps such as Teen Patti Master.
This guide covers the game itself first: how a round is played, what beats what, and the house variations. The second half looks at the Teen Patti Master app, what its lobby contains, what its bonus promises really mean, and how the 2025 gaming law in India affects anyone who plays.

How a round of Teen Patti works
A table has three to six players and a standard 52-card deck with no jokers. Aces are high. Suits have no rank.
- Boot. Every player puts the same small amount into the pot before the deal. The boot also sets the first stake that later bets are measured against.
- Deal. Each player gets three cards face down. Play moves clockwise from the dealer's left.
- Blind or seen. On your turn you choose how to play. A blind player bets without looking and pays between one and two times the current stake. A seen player has looked and pays between two and four times the stake. A seen player's bet is called a chaal.
- Pack. Instead of betting you can fold, which Indian players call packing. You lose what you have already put in.
- Show. When two players are left, one of them can pay to ask for a show. Both hands are turned up and the higher one takes the pot.
- Side show. With three or more players left, a seen player can ask the previous seen player to compare hands privately. The weaker hand packs. The other player can refuse.
A hand also ends early if everyone else packs. The last player left wins without showing their cards.
Playing blind is cheaper, and nobody at the table knows what you hold, including you. That is why experienced players often stay blind for the first round or two. The full rules, with an example round played card by card, are in our Teen Patti rules for beginners guide.
Teen Patti hand rankings
From best to worst. The odds come from all 22,100 possible three-card hands in a 52-card deck.
| Rank | Hand | What it is | Example | Chance of being dealt it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Trail (set) | Three cards of the same rank | A♠ A♥ A♦ | 0.24% |
| 2 | Pure sequence | Three cards in a row, same suit | 7♥ 8♥ 9♥ | 0.22% |
| 3 | Sequence (run) | Three cards in a row, mixed suits | 4♣ 5♦ 6♠ | 3.26% |
| 4 | Colour | Three cards of one suit, not in a row | 2♦ 7♦ J♦ | 4.96% |
| 5 | Pair | Two cards of the same rank | Q♠ Q♣ 5♥ | 16.94% |
| 6 | High card | Anything else | K♦ 9♣ 3♠ | 74.39% |
The maths says a pure sequence is rarer than a trail, but the trail ranks higher by tradition. A-K-Q is the top sequence, and most Indian rules put A-2-3 second (the full sequence list shows the rest). Three hands in four are high-card hands, so a pair is stronger than it looks at a full table.
When two players hold the same type of hand, the higher cards win. Compare the top card first, then the second, then the third. For pairs, the higher pair wins, and the third card breaks a tie between equal pairs.
Teen Patti variations
House games change the rules to keep things interesting, and app lobbies copy the most popular versions. The rule change usually appears only in the table name, so check it before you sit down.
| Variation | What changes |
|---|---|
| Muflis (lowball) | Rankings flip and the lowest hand wins |
| Joker | One card is turned face up after the deal. Every card of that rank is wild |
| AK47 | All aces, kings, fours and sevens are wild |
| 999 | The hand closest to 999 wins, reading the cards as hundreds, tens and units |
| Four-card | Each player gets four cards and plays the best three |
| Lowest joker | The lowest card in your own hand is your wild card |
Wild cards push hand strength up a long way. In Joker and AK47, a trail turns up far more often than the 0.24% in the table above, so a plain pair is weak. Our post on Muflis, AK47 and 999 goes through each variation with examples.
Strategy for beginners
No strategy changes the cards you are dealt. What you control is how much each hand costs you.
- Pack weak hands early. A high card below an ace rarely wins at a table of four or more. Most new players lose their chips by staying in too long with hands like these.
- Stay blind in the first round. You pay half what seen players pay, and your later bets are harder to read.
- Watch the bets. Online you cannot see faces, so betting patterns are all you have. A cautious player who suddenly raises usually has something.
- Bluff rarely. A bluff works against one or two players who can fold. It rarely works against a full table.
- Decide your limit before you start. Pick a number of chips for the session and stop when they are gone. Do not chase a loss in the next hand.
Teen Patti Master: the game on your phone
Teen Patti Master is an Android app built around Teen Patti. Its lobby carries multiplayer Teen Patti tables and the variations above, plus other card and casual games. It is installed as an APK file from outside the Google Play Store. The app's own promotions describe more than 30 games, although the exact lobby changes from one update to the next.

These are the game families the app is known for:
- Teen Patti. Classic tables with boot, blind and seen play, show and side show, plus variation tables such as Muflis, Joker and AK47. Tournaments run on some builds.
- Rummy. 13-card Indian Rummy against other players in points, pool and deals formats.

- Ludo and Bingo. Familiar board and number games in a quicker online format.
- Chicken Road. A pixel-style arcade game where you guide a chicken across roads and rivers and aim for a high score.
If your build has free-chip or practice tables, start there. You can learn how the app handles blind and seen play, and how its show rules work, without risking anything.
Before you install: what to check
Teen Patti Master is not on the Play Store, so you have to do the checks the store would normally do for you. Fake copies with the same name and icon are common.

Install from the app's own page
Copies with the same name and icon are common. The download guide shows how to check the file before you install it.

Nobody genuine asks for your OTP
No real support team needs your OTP, UPI PIN, bank password or remote access to your phone. Treat any such request as a scam.

18+ only
The app is for adults. Money play is banned in India under the 2025 online gaming law, so stick to free chips.

Many games, one lobby
Teen Patti tables sit alongside Rummy, Slots, Ludo, Bingo and quick arcade games. The list changes with updates.

Read bonus terms first
Welcome bonuses and referral rewards come with conditions. A bonus is not cash until those conditions are met.

Use in-app support
For login, install or account problems, use the help section inside the app, not a number shared on WhatsApp or Telegram.
Our Teen Patti Master 2027 APK download guide walks through the install step by step, including how to check the file and which permissions to refuse. If you already have the app, the install and update guide shows how to update it safely.
Bonuses, referrals and "earn money" claims
Adverts for Teen Patti Master and similar apps lean hard on money. You will see welcome rewards "up to ₹3,000", referral commissions "up to 20 lakh a month", and banners promising to double your money in 25 minutes. Read these as marketing.
- A welcome bonus is locked. It usually has to be played through several times before any of it can be withdrawn, and the terms can change.
- Referral commission comes from your friends' spending. These schemes usually pay a share of what the people you invite put into the app.
- Nobody can promise winnings. Every Teen Patti hand starts with a random deal, and slots and quick games are pure chance.
Is Teen Patti legal in India?
Playing Teen Patti with friends for fun has always been fine. Online money play is a different matter.
In August 2025 Parliament passed the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025. It bans online money games across India, whether they depend on skill or chance. It also bans advertising them and stops banks and payment apps from processing their payments. The penalties fall on operators, promoters and payment companies, and the Act treats players as victims. Challenges to the Act are being heard in the Supreme Court, and the ban stands until the Court says otherwise.
So playing with free chips is not what the Act targets. An app that still takes deposits from Indian players is operating outside Indian law, and you have little protection if a withdrawal is refused or an account is closed. We do not recommend adding money to any gaming app. Our disclaimer has the full legal notes, and the responsible gaming page has help if the game has stopped feeling like a game.

Frequently asked questions
What is Teen Patti?
Teen Patti is a three-card Indian game related to poker and to the British game three-card brag. Each player gets three cards, bets on having the best hand, and can pack (fold) at any turn. The best hand is a trail, three cards of the same rank.
How many players can play Teen Patti?
Three to six players is standard. Seven can play from one deck, but rounds get slower.
What is the highest hand in Teen Patti?
A trail of three aces (A-A-A). After trails come the pure sequence, sequence, colour, pair and high card.
What is the difference between blind and seen in Teen Patti?
A blind player bets without looking at their cards and pays one to two times the current stake. A seen player has looked and pays two to four times the stake. You can switch from blind to seen on any turn, but not back.
Is Teen Patti a game of skill or luck?
Both. The deal is pure luck. Deciding when to pack, when to stay blind and how to read other players' bets is skill. Over a single session, luck decides most results. Indian law no longer separates the two for online money play: the 2025 Act bans money games of skill and of chance alike.
Can I play Teen Patti online for free?
Yes. Teen Patti Master and similar apps give free chips when you sign up, and many add daily rewards. Free-chip tables play by the same rules as other tables and are the best place to learn.
Can I win real money on Teen Patti Master?
Online money games are banned in India under the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025. An app that still offers deposits and withdrawals to Indian players is operating outside the law, and you would have no reliable way to recover money if a withdrawal failed. Treat the game as entertainment and play with free chips only.
Is there an official Teen Patti Master website?
Many sites use the Teen Patti Master name, including independent guides like this one. The download button on this site opens the app's own download page. Whatever site you use, check the file as shown in our APK download guide, and never give anyone your OTP, UPI PIN or bank password.
Is Teen Patti Master available on the Play Store or iPhone?
Teen Patti Master is installed as an Android APK from outside the Google Play Store. We are not aware of a genuine iPhone version on the App Store, and store listings that borrow the name are usually different apps. Be careful with any site that asks you to install a "profile" on an iPhone to play.
